The Nordic countries - Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland - consist of more than 24 million people.  And Scandinavians are a travelling people.  The cold winter climate has made the people in Scandinavia go South, East and West for holidays for decades - and these days, the new trend is to buy  property abroad.

The generation born in the 1940's is approaching the retirement age.  Today, many of these retirees-to-be are selling their companies and in many cases their homes in order to buy property in other countries where they can retire.  The reasons why they go abroad are many - a warmer climate, lower taxes, golf around the year, or simply fulfilling a dream.  Spain and Thailand have in recent years been very popular but the new trend is that so many people look for property in countries all over the world.

And it is not only Scandinavians approaching retirement who move abroad.  Also, many younger people tend to do so, a fact that is shown also when Scandinavian schools open up in different countries with larger Scandinavian populations.

In the last 50 years, immigration to Scandinavia has been booming.  And now, these New Scandinavians often look for property, in many cases vacation homes, in the countries from where they or their parents once came.

Scandinavians have a strong purchasing power, and now they, just like the Vikings once did, are moving out into the world.

This site, Hem Utomlands ("Homes Abroad"), is a serving link between Scandinavians who want to find property abroad and those who provide these services.  Since most Scandinavians speak very good English, property ads will reach the Scandinavian customer regardless of whether the ad is written in a Scandinavian language or in English.
